We have unrivalled skills and experience within our team to deliver aquaculture projects, and to ensure that they are completed on time, on budget, and to the required quality standards.

Managing Director and Senior Consultant Greg Riddle heads up the project team, and leads on project delivery and aquaculture technology, including design, procurement and construction phases. Greg comes from a strong background in managing large teams delivering construction and engineering works as well as contractual and financial performance of these projects.

Greg is the founding director of NLC responsible for all aspects of running the business and delivering a high quality service to NLC clients. Since founding Northern Light Consulting in 2013, the business has grown year-on-year and delivered many aquaculture projects, working for farmers, their supply chain and other stakeholders. These range from developing new products to managing the design and construction. Greg has direct experience leading and managing on large multi-disciplinary projects.  Notably he led a £50m project to deliver the largest land-based aquaculture facility in the UK.   

Senior Project Manager, Shona MacLeay has over 20 years of progressive experience managing multi-disciplinary teams. As a Chartered Civil Engineer, Shona has vast experience in marine engineering, coastal protection and flood prevention works, bridges, cycleways and active travel route development. Having worked collaboratively with different disciplines she has a detailed understanding of getting the best out of large multi-disciplinary teams and keeping projects on track.

Since joining Northern Light Consulting in 2018, Shona has taken responsibility for project management on a £3m community marina project and provided commercial and contractual support on a £50m freshwater hatchery project.   At Northern Light Consulting Shona is responsible for the day-to-day running of projects, managing the design interface, procurement process, contract administration,  supervision of the construction works and HSEQ compliance. Shona’s other professional interests include being a member of Mallaig Harbour Board.

Project Manager and Design Engineer Neil MacDonald, has a degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering with 13 years in maintenance, design and project management, with the last 8 working for a leading aquaculture supplier developing new products and innovations, as well as managing project delivery on site. Neil joined NLC in April 2022 and brings invaluable experience of marine aquaculture systems.

Prior, to this Neil worked as a mechanical engineer and maintenance engineer. Since joining the team Neil leads on a number of design projects as well as project management responsibility.

Director and Senior Consultant Sarah Riddle leads the business consultancy team, and brings over 25 years’ experience in senior commercial, sales and operational roles, gained with leading aquaculture companies, fish processors (dedicated to retail), manufacturers and wholesalers.

Sarah has in-depth knowledge of industry practice and processes up and down the entire value chain, and of new innovations in the sector, as well as extensive industry contacts. Before joining Northern Light Consulting in 2015, Sarah worked in various senior commercial and sales positions within the aquaculture industry and before that within the food production and processing sector.

Alongside her work for Northern Light Consulting, Sarah is currently Business Engagement Director for the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre. She is also an ISO9001 Lead Auditor. Sarah visits many different aquaculture and fish processing facilities across the value chain in Scotland, Norway, Iceland and the Faroes, and is up-to-date with best farming practice, innovation and processing methods. Sarah also provides Innovation support workshops to a variety of new start-up and small companies in the food and drink sector. Sarah also sits on the board of Lochaber Chamber of Commerce..

Development Manager – Innovation & Communications Mairi Sandison, graduated with a BA (Hons) in Business with Marketing 5 years ago. Prior to joining NLC she worked in marketing for an SME logistics company in Lochaber who are very much part of the aquaculture supply chain. Through this she developed an understanding of the sector, with the company providing several services to the industry.

Since joining Northern Light Consulting in late 2019, Mairi has led on a multitude of projects and has developed her project management, research and reporting skills. Mairi is responsible for marketing for both ourselves and some of our clients. Mairi supports many aspects of our project consultancy work, including grant/bid writing and stakeholder engagement. Mairi also administers our internal business functions on a day-to-day basis.
